Designed for the use of the reception, security, and surveillance staff but, in practice, of interest to all museum professionals and aspiring professionals, the volume Il museo accogliente. Manuale di pratica museale by Daniele Jalla, published by the Scuola nazionale del patrimonio e delle attività culturali, is available in both print and digital formats .

It is a manual that combines theory and practice and, in five chapters, weaves reflection on the meaning and role of the museum (What is a museum?), with a precise and well-documented analysis of its functions (The museum conserves, The museum communicates, The museum is accountable) thereby embracing all the necessary conditions for a museum to be a welcoming museum, accessible and thus, essentially, to be a museum tout court.

Daniele Jalla, the author, wrote this volume at the end not only of a long teaching career, but also drawing from his experience 'inside museums'; in this way, the volume not only expands and integrates the content delivered in his training activities but is equally nourished by the attitude of listening: to scholars, museum professionals, and above all to visitors, the 'guests' whose point of view the museum never ceases to consider.

The opportunity to publish the volume arose within the context of the training activities that the School has offered since its establishment to museum professionals, a path launched in 2021 with Museums in Progress, the program carried out in support of the Sistema museale nazionale with the Ministry of Culture (Direzione generale Musei and Direzione generale Educazione ricerca e istituti culturali), followed by two editions of Toolkit for museum and continuing with the training offer of Personeper.
